KLH Sustainability

Kirsten Henson, founding Director at sustainability consultancy, KLH Sustainability, first worked with Radical Recruit back in 2020 when she was looking to recruit a new Office Manager into her team and wanted to focus on a fair and equitable recruitment process in which she could access a diverse shortlist of candidates. At the time, Kirsten also engaged Radical’s training services in order to offer anti-bias training to her entire team.

When Kirsten had a new role come up for an Operations & Finance Manager in late 2022, focusing on process improvement and business operations efficiency, she decided to take the approach of advertising directly, alongside appointing Radical to source, screen, and submit candidates for their shortlist. This was a role to sit on KLH’s small leadership team, with line management of the Office Manager that Radical had successfully placed two years earlier, who was now thriving in her role and looking for additional mentoring and career development.

Radical wrote a new job advert with a particular focus on selling the role in the best possible way, along with all of the great things that came with working for KLH, aimed specifically at attracting a diverse range of applicants.

In total, 20 applicants were screened, each spending one hour minimum with someone on the Radical team to discuss their skills and experience, motivations for applying for the role and how their long-term career plans would fit with KLH’s plans. Each candidate was then provided 1-2-1 support to ensure that their CVs was as strong as possible, and they were also provided with guidance on writing engaging cover letters.

Kirsten shortlisted four candidates for first round interview from Radical’s seven submissions. Following first found interviews, three Radical candidates entered into the final stages of the interview process.

After final round interviews Kirsten extended an offer to a Radical candidate - a highly experienced HR and operations professional, who immediately accepted and started with the business three weeks later.
