The Changemaker Challenge

Each Challenge is meticulously tailored to our client's needs, addressing the common issue of businesses committing to diversity and inclusion without translating these commitments into actionable steps. Our mission is to empower participants to drive substantial change in their workplaces, regardless of their roles or seniority.

At the core of most Changemaker Challenges is our dedication to unpack diversity in all its dimensions, delving beyond traditional constructs to encompass socio-economic aspects such as class, and experiences like domestic violence and involvement with the care system. This segment typically comprises the first half of the day, along with other key themes:

  • Privilege: Exploring the impact of privilege and its role in shaping experiences and opportunities.

  • Power: Grasping power dynamics and their influence on relationships and decision-making.

  • Intersectionality: Recognising the interplay of various identities and experiences, each with its unique challenges.

  • Unconscious Bias: Addressing biases that may inadvertently influence perceptions and decisions.

  • Anti-Bias Leadership: Encouraging proactive steps to counter bias and foster inclusivity.

Trauma-Informed Leadership: Developing leadership approaches that consider the potential impact of trauma on individuals, cultivating environments of sensitivity, support, and empowerment for colleagues with marginalized identities.

Leadership, The Radical Way

This collaborative and interactive workshop is specifically tailored for individuals who hold leadership responsibilities, particularly for teams composed of diverse backgrounds, including those who may have experienced trauma. Through engaging with real-life case studies contributed by participants, this workshop combines dynamic elements to enhance leadership skills:

  • Role Play and Actor Interaction: Participants engage in role play exercises with a trained actor to practice essential leadership traits such as building trust, adaptability, curiosity, compassion, clarity, collaboration, and active listening. This hands-on approach provides a safe space to refine leadership qualities.

  • Coaching by HR Expert: An HR expert guides participants in confidently interacting with their colleagues, ensuring that their leadership aligns seamlessly with their organisation's HR policies and procedures.

Furthermore, the workshop equips attendees to comprehend trauma, recognize its indicators, and develop empathy towards its effects on individuals, especially those with convictions, within the workplace. This understanding allows participants to recognize how trauma can influence behaviour and how individuals might 'show up' at work. Participants are encouraged to contribute their real-life scenarios, enabling them to explore and practice their leadership skills from a trauma-informed perspective, employing a Radical leadership framework.

The Radical Human Library

The concept of a "Radical Library" is a unique and innovative approach to unveiling unconscious bias and promoting understanding, empathy, and diversity. It's a live event or program where our Radicals, referred to as "books," share their personal stories, experiences, and perspectives with delegates who act as "readers."

Here's how it works:

  • Books: People from various backgrounds, with diverse experiences, and unique perspectives attend as "books." Each "book" represents a specific aspect of their identity or life experiences that might be misunderstood or subject to stereotypes, prejudice, or discrimination. These can include, but are not limited to, aspects like ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, mental health, or profession.

  • Readers: Participants, or "readers," attend the Radical library event to engage in conversations with the "books." They can "borrow" a book for a set amount of time, during which they have a one-on-one or small group conversation with the book. This allows readers to ask questions, share thoughts, and gain a deeper understanding of the book's experiences and perspectives.

Recruitment Copywriting 101

Do you know the difference between a job spec and a job advert?

Have you ever thought about how having predominantly masculine or feminine language in your job adverts could be more likely to attract one demographic of candidate than another, therefore reducing diversity in applications?

Are you still littering your ads with “highly desirable but not essential” criteria, not taking into consideration how this impacts minoritised candidates self-selecting out of a process?

This is advert writing made simple, effective and inclusive, aimed at sending delegates away with a fool-proof template to use for advert writing moving forwards. We’ve had many passive candidates state that they weren’t even looking for a role but were gripped by the style of content in our adverts – this is what we do best. The sessions focuses on:

  • Identifying your target audience (and highlighting some of the key reasons why you can’t currently reach them!)
  • Creating truly engaging job adverts by breaking down the difference between job specs and job ads
  • How to grab a candidate’s attention in your opening using your company’s (or your client’s) USPs
  • Making your content accessible and levelling the playing field for neurodivergent candidates
  • Keeping the relevant information and ditching the stuff that’s detrimental to attracting high quality applicants
  • Formatting your adverts in a way that keeps candidates engaged
  • Displaying your commitments to EDI and positioning yourself as a truly diverse and inclusive employer
