Case Study - Rutendo
Programme Manager for Women's Charity
"I had the opportunity of working with Radical because of a job they advertised which I was interested in. After registering my interest, Holly contacted me and walked me through the job posting, application requirements and process. She was professional, responsive and took time to understand who I was as a professional.
The best part is that she helped to clean up and remodel my CV so that it really highlights my skills and helps me stand out and as an international applicant who was new to the UK job market, this was extremely helpful in ensuring I present myself in accordance with the expectations of the local job market.
I am pleased to announce that out of the 200 initial applicants, 50 shortlisted and 10 interviewed, I got the job. I deeply appreciate the help I received from Holly and the Radical team, couldn't have done it without you."
Rutendo was a charity leader with over 5 years’ experience leading women’s health programmes when B-Radical came into contact with her. You’d think that this would set her up for success in itself, but the problem was that all of Rutendo’s work experience had been in Zimbabwe. She was struggling with how to best communicate the skills and experience she had amassed throughout her career, to the UK market, and we supported her with shaping a CV and cover letter that helped her to do exactly that.
We opted for a skills and achievements-based CV, allowing her to clearly display the phenomenal impact of the work she’d been doing, along with the skills she had, matching them to the specification for the Programme Manager role with the Smallwood Trust – a women’s poverty charity based here in the UK.
Rutendo’s application was impressive, leading to her securing a first and then second stage interview with the CEO and Head of Programmes. We worked with her to prepare for the interview, ensuring she was able to confidently communicate why she was the best candidate for the role, picking relevant examples of her previous successes to showcase the value she would bring to Smallwood.
Of over 200 applicants, 50 were shortlisted, with 10 being selected for interview. Despite having no UK experience, Rutendo’s transferrable skills and proven track record in successfully leading women’s initiatives – coupled with a fantastic initial application and subsequent interviews – meant that she came out on top and landed herself the role of Programme Manager.
