Case Study - Tia

Tia was one of Emma's first young Radicals. She met Em, or 'Emmy', as Tia calls her at social services and Within a few weeks, Em had placed her into her first Radical job as a support worker for young people with disabilities. This, despite her criminal conviction which would usually get in the way.

Tia was raised in the care system like many of our Radicals are. Em remembers Tia saying 'That's what I thought love was' when talking about the domestic violence she survived at the hands of her much older boyfriend when she was just a child and in care.

Tia is one of our most resilient, kind and caring Radicals. She looks after the people around her and she cares deeply about other humans. About a year after we first placed her, we placed her again, this time into an office role at NSL, a part of Marston Holdings. After six months or so, she was promoted.

Tia has been homeless, she's managed to successfully navigate her way out of a broken care system and a domestic violence relationship and doesn't letter her contact with the criminal justice system define her. Her dream is to study counselling and become a therapist so that she can support people who have had similar life experiences to her. We know it will happen because once Tia sets her mind to something, she usually achieves her goal!
