Accountant to Celebrities

"Before I came across Radical, I was an aviation graduate who didn't want to pursue aviation as a career. Having completed my studies, I realised that what I really wanted to do was study to be an accountant and work in finance.

To avoid going back to uni and starting from scratch, I started applying for finance jobs. Instead of getting interviews though, I got rejection after rejection. I had so many rejections, I resolved myself to believing that the only way to secure a role in finance would be to go back to university. 

Then, by chance, I saw an ad pop up for a junior accountant role that Radical were recruiting for and I thought "this has got to be too good to be true!".

I applied for the job, just in case, and I got a call from a guy called Chris who told me what Radical did and invited to a workshop where I was helped to reshape my CV for the job. 

Once I got an interview, I was also helped to practice my interview technique. These workshops that Radical ran were invaluable. I learned so much about myself and how I could improve.

For example, a big thing for me was my confidence. I was particularly good at downplaying my achievements when I should have been shouting about them at interview. Radical really taught me that any achievement is a big achievement and how to talk about them – they call it ‘bragging well’.

Radical also taught me how to set the scene for an interview, you know, to make me feel more comfortable in the setting, which helped a lot. My interview went so well. It really was amazing and I got the job!

Now I work for a company called YMU Group. It's a talent agency in central London, and essentially, I am an accountant for celebrities, which is so cool. I love the job and I also love that I get to gain a professional qualification along the way. So, I am currently studying towards a level seven associate qualification for professional accounting, and I don't know what to say because if I didn't come across Radical, I would probably be in uni right now studying from year one accounting, which just the thought of is really daunting.

Thanks to Radical, I am on the right path to the career I want and slowly but surely I am working my way up. Radical were a complete game changer for me and I'm so happy where I am now thanks to their support."
